Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
